Organizations & Groups Seeking to Build Capacity

Welcome, Organizational Leaders!

Our third round of match-making and grant-making, now called Match for Change, begins August 6th. Space is limited and acceptance will be determined by our capacity, organizations' eligibility, and our assessment of their potential for transformation.

Here is a summary of the steps involved, with a more detailed narrative below.

The Steps & Timeline: (CORE is not accepting applications at this time.)
  1. Review our definitions, eligibility criteria, and confidentiality policy.
  2. Preview the organizational application and decide who from your group will take the lead on filling it out and who else, if anyone, will be consulted.
  3. Fill out the online application by clicking on the link at the bottom of this page: (due by noon on Sept. 5th)
  4. Wait for us to confirm your acceptance (by Sept. 10)
  5. Check the list we send you of trained Connectors and let us know of any confidentiality concerns (by Sept.15)
  6. Pay your $50 application fee (by Sept. 17)
  7. Make yourself and your team available to meet with assigned Connectors for the Learning Conversation (Sept. 29 - Oct. 17).
At this point, the process diverges, depending on our assessment of your "readiness" to engage a consultant
(see this link for what we mean by "readiness").

"Ready"

8. We provide you with the names of 2-3 recommended consultants and inform you if you have been selected to receive a $500 assisted contracting grant (by Dec. 5).

9. You select your consultant (see recommended process) and pay them the $500 to work with you to develop a more detailed work plan and budget for your capacity-building project, using our required questions (due Feb. 15th, 2015).

10. If your project is selected, we offer you up to $5000 in matching funds to help you pay for it.

11. If your project is funded, you work with the consultant to complete the work in the agreed-upon timeframe and submit a final report to us.

"Not Ready"

8. If we determine that it is still not quite clear what kind of capacity building you want to do, we will invite you to attend one of our A Taste of CORE events to help you discern the best next steps for your organization.

9. After attending this event, you will be eligible to apply once again for Match for Change.

The Detailed Narrative:

CORE isn’t for everyone. To make the best use of your time and ours, we ask that you be clear about our eligibility criteria, areas of focus, and confidentiality policies before you submit an application.

You will also want to look at a preview version of the application before going online to fill it out, and think about who  from your group will take the lead on filling it out and who else, if anyone, will be consulted. The online application takes less than an hour to complete. You can stop part way through and come back to it later if needed. Please answer all of the application questions to the best of your ability. Our expectation is that you will find the process useful in clarifying your capacity building goals.

If you have questions, submit a request through the website and we’ll respond promptly.
Applications are due by noon on Fri. Sept. 5th, 2014.

After you submit the application, we will let you know if you are accepted into this round. All accepted participants—the organizations seeking capacity building support and the consultants/trainers offering such support—are then asked to pay an application fee of $50 to defray costs of the process.

Accepted organizations will be contacted by our volunteer Connectors to schedule your 90 minute Learning Conversation. You should plan to bring 2-3 people from your organization, if appropriate. The Learning Conversation can help you further clarify your capacity-building aspirations. Other Connectors will meet with consultant applicants, to better understand the kinds of work they are best at. All of the Connector teams will then come together in a facilitated process to share what they've learned and decide on the best 2-3 recommended consultants for each organization that is ready for a capacity-building project.

If after the Learning Conversation we feel that it is still not quite clear what kind of capacity building you want to do, we will invite you to attend one of our A Taste of CORE events to help you discern the best next steps for your organization. After attending this event, you will be eligible to apply once again for Match for Change.

If your organization is ready to engage a consultant and we are able to recommend 2-3 well-fitting consultants, we will give you this list and the ball will be in your court to contact them, meet with them, and select one of them to work with.

When we send you your consultant recommendations, we will also let you know whether your organization has been selected to receive contracting assistance and is eligible to apply for matching funds. If you are among the selected organizations, we will provide you with an initial $500 grant to be used as an honorarium to pay the consultant of your choice to work with you to develop a more detailed project plan, including a work plan and budget, using our required questions.

Once you submit a satisfactory plan to us, if you are selected we will offer you up to $5000 (depending on your project budget) in matching funds to help you pay for the work. You will be required to raise 50% of the budget for the project.

If your project is funded, you will work with the consultant to complete the work in the agreed-upon timeframe (preferably by Fall 2015), and submit a final report to us so we can learn how it went.
