Funder Confab Action Team Charter
(This is the working document identifying the purpose, outcomes, and activities of the group hosting the Funder Confab gatherings).
Purpose: To build funder community to strengthen the capacity of the social sector in Dane County.
Definitions: For the purposes of this Team, funders means foundations, corporate donors, government granting agencies, and major individual donors
Outcomes
● Deepened relationships among funders, including:
● Increased understanding of and shared language for the variety of methods for building capacity
● Increased funding of capacity building in the local social sector
● Increased participation of funders in the CORE community, including Match for Change and CORE Action Café
● Increased awareness among funders of the power dynamics in the funding relationship and how to navigate them skillfully; understanding the consequences (direct and indirect) of how we wield our power
Processes/Activities
● Cultivate relationships and facilitate reflection in one-on-one learning conversations with funders
● Bring funders together for facilitated conversation and peer learning (Funder Confabs)
● Track conversations and activities in CORE’s database
● Evaluate Funder Confabs and other activities (process, outcomes)
● Harvest and share information from Confabs
● Assist in Marketing these activities and outcomes
● Be mindful about how we use and give access to power that potentially coalesces when we bring funders together; use it with transparency and accountability.
● Explore the prospect of creating/naming what we are creating as a “Community of Practice”.
● Continue to explore the question “What can we do (learn, etc) together that we can’t do independently?”
Team Membership and Expectations
● The Team will be made up of CORE Staff, Steering Committee members and other volunteers, as well as representatives of the funding community
● Members are expected to attend all meetings they are able, and participate in team activities.
Authority
The CORE Steering Committee authorizes the Chair of this Action Team to organize and manage the Team consistent with CORE’s policies, budget guidelines, and central tenets. The Steering Committee will be a resource to the Team, especially regarding new projects or budget expenditures, and expects to be kept up to date on the Team’s Action Plan progress.
